INTERNACIONAL STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION 2016 | IFLA AMERICAS

COMPETITION RULES

In the framework of the STUDENT COMPETITION to establish the links between two realities to "ONLY ONE CITY" on the occasion of the IFLA AMERICAS - URBIO 2016 CONFERENCE to be held in the City of Knowledge, Panama City, Panama, from 25 to 27 October.

The competition is jointly organized by the Association of landscape architects of Panama, ASAPP and the International Federation of Landscape Architects IFLA AMERICAS, under the auspices of the Mayor of Panama.

“BREAKING BARRIERS: CONNECTIVITY OF ONLY ONE CITY”, to establish the links between two realities to “ONLY ONE CITY”
Competition Theme
Aim of the Competition
  • To establish the connection between el Chorrillo Area and the Area Revertida of The Canal, by means of a public space solution.
  • To highlight the lack of integration of urban space between two sectors of the city, linked by history.
  • To strengthen the Panamanian nationality through crosswalks and squares solutions.
  • To create a work-monument that helps facilitate pedestrian communication between the two sectors.
Location
Through this Project we will be able to join both "sectors" separated by what today is the Avenue of Martyrs.

The proposals must include in its design:

  • WALKING PASSAGE or GREEN BRIDGE, wide, which will be located between the sector of "Mi Pueblito" on the Avenue of the Martyrs and the sector of El Chorrillo (township bordering Avenue of the Martyrs).
  • THE PLAZA, ample space, it will be located at the lower level of the Green Bridge to the sector of El Chorrillo, serving the connectivity to this sector.
The contest is conceptually an "Ideas Contest", which should be developed in argumentative and projectual areas. Proposals by the participants implies the acceptance of the publication and exhibition of them in both digital and print media.

Who can participate?

The competition is open only to students from both Panama or foreign, who are in college, career Landscape Architecture or related disciplines (where a country or university does not present a formal program of Landscape Architecture), located within the Region of the Americas IFLA.

Both individual and group submissions will be accepted, and each student or group is allowed only one entry. Broad interdisciplinary submissions are also welcomed; in group proposals each group must appoint a “group leader”, preferably a student in landscape architecture, who will be the interlocutor of the group.

The number of participants per group may be 2 to 5 members and may not exceed five (5) students. Professional collaborators and associates of members of the jury, and their relatives up to a third degree may not enter the competition.

The works must be original and not have been awarded in another contest.
