IFLA AMERICAS SIDE ACTIVITIES

Venues

The conference will take place in Ciudad del Saber, or City of Knowledge, in Panama City, Panama. Morning Plenary as well as afternoon Sessions, Presentations and Workshops will take place at the CDS Convention Center.

PROGRAM

TUESDAY 25 OCTOBER | DAY 1

The conference will start off in the Conference Center, with the opening ceremony speeches by the City of Panama Mayor, José I. Blandon, and welcoming words by Ciudad del Saber Foundation Representatives, followed by keynote presentations. Late morning will be wrapped up with a discussion panel on the day’s sub-theme. The afternoon will be occupied by parallel sessions, and presentations at the Convention Center venue. Simultaneous translation will be provided for the morning plenary. The afternoon will include both English and Spanish sessions (although no translation will be provided).

WELCOME WINE OF HONOR and SPEED DATING Day 1 activities will be closed with a welcome wine of honor reception animated by the City of Panama Escuela de Bellas Artes Children Community Dance Group, for Cultural performance and music. A speed dating activity will take place to spark conversations between our two IFLA and URBIO communities.

 

The FREE EVENING will be an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the area, and catch up with colleagues and new friends at the local CDS Restaurants or at the many Casco Viejo Restaurants and Bars.

WEDNESDAY 26 OCTOBER | DAY 2

The day will start with Keynote presentations, with an introductory Presentation by Vice Mayor, Raisa Banfield. Late morning will be wrapped up with a discussion panel on the day’s sub-theme. The afternoon will continue in parallel sessions, and presentations at the Convention Center venue. Simultaneous translation will be provided for the morning plenary. The afternoon will include both English and Spanish sessions (although no translation will be provided).

 

PANAMA NIGHT DINING COCKTAIL, and Gala, will take place at the American Trade Hotel, located at the Plaza Herrera in Casco Viejo—a unique restored landmark building, the 1917 American Trade Building. During the evening, animated by the City of Panama Traditional Dances Group, there will be food, performances, music, and other surprises that will all contribute to making this a great start point for a memorable evening in the Historic District. You can explore on your own the area afterwards and continue to catch up with your old and newly met colleagues and friends over drinks and night life. Group transportation will be provided to and from the American Trade Hotel at set times.

THURSDAY  27 OCTOBER | DAY 3

The last day of the conference will start with Keynote presentations and a last Discussion Panel on the day’s sub-theme. The afternoon will start with parallel sessions and workshops. At the end of the day we will come together to consider what this first joint IFLA and URBIO conference has achieved, share the outcome of the ELEPA Charrette and the IFLA Student Design Competition, the Regional Council and the LALI Forum, as we look forward to the next IFLA World Congress in Montreal, in October 2017, and the COP 13 of the CBD in Cancun, Mexico. Simultaneous translation will be provided for the morning and afternoon plenaries. The afternoon will include both English and Spanish sessions (although no translation will be provided).

 

The 2016 IFLA URBIO PANAMA Conference will close at 5pm Thursday.

FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER | Cultural and Scientific Tours

For those staying a little longer there will be an opportunity to take part in specially arranged visits to local places of interest - Panama's natural and cultural Landscape offers unique opportunities to explore and learn. You will also be able to find out about the history of Panama's Casco Viejo and Ciudad Antigua on the City's seafront. (link to the Page)

LUNCH AT THE PLAZA

 

Lunch is on your own. An array of venues are available at the CDS Plaza Complex at 5 minute walk from the Conference Venues.

 

TRANSPORTATION

 

Transportation for the Gala evening is provided to all participants. Also we are on the works with UBER so the service is readily available on the area of the CDS City of Knowledge.

The City of Knowledge has an internal system of buses, that facilitates the mobility within the complex.

SUNDAY 23 OCTOBER | 8 AM to 6 PM

IFLA AMERICAS REGIONAL COUNCIL - IFLA Delegates and invited observers only

Oficina del Casco Antiguo (OCA)

Hosted by the ASAPP, The IFLA AMERICAS 18 National Associations member Delegates, will gather to further organizational business, the action plan, thematic workshops.

MONDAY 24 OCTOBER | 8.30 AM to 6 PM

V LALI FORUM - Open to all (Spanish only)

CDS Convention Center Room 102

Under the theme LANDSCAPE from REGIONAL to LOCAL WORLD, the V LALI FORUM will host a space for reflection on the progress of the Latin American Landscape Initiative, its strategic plan, clusters, projects; and the opportunities and challenges presented by the oncoming Landscape Charters. It will foresee means to implement the regional project "Towards a Latin American Landscape Convention" with the examination of the second draft. With the leadership of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, the participants will gather around an International workshop “Landscape and the Local World”. A LALI tree planting ceremony will take place during the lunch period.

LALI FORUM Agenda

IV ELEPA - ENCUENTRO LATINOAMERICANO DE ESTUDIANTES DEL PAISAJE

(Open to Students and Emergent Professionals) 

IFLA Council of Students and Emergent Professionals

The ELEPA is the annual student convening for students to meet, collaborate, and to reflect and act on present Landscape issues from the perspective of a learning process. Under the Theme: A PANAMANIAN BIOTIC COMMUNITY, the Panama City/ Landscape will be featured with an invitation to imagine a Linear Landscape Promenade and Outlook Facility Centre on the emblematic Panamanian site, the CERRO ANCÓN. The proposal should consider mitigation approaches to respect the conservation requirements of this unique site.

IFLA AMERICAS 2016 STUDENT COMPETITION

(Open to Students only)

Inspired by the Conference theme, the IFLA 2016 Regional Student Competition theme, BREAKING BARRIERS - CONNETIVITY FOR AN INTEGRATED CITY is a call to establish A NEXUS BETWEEN TWO REALITIES TO ENVISION A ONE UNITED CITY. The Competition is organized by the Asociación de Arquitectos Paisajistas de Panamá, ASAPP, the International Federation of Landscape Architects, IFLA AMERICAS, under the patronage of the Alcaldía de Panama.
